What the Prophets Knew — Science Now Confirms

There was a time when the people of Israel fasted often. They wore sackcloth, covered themselves in ashes, bowed their heads low, and filled the air with cries of sorrow. Their voices rose with weeping, groaning, and fasting. They believed their outward acts would move God’s heart.
But one day, the voice of the Lord came through His prophet Isaiah. It was not a soft whisper — it was a wake-up call.

“Do you think this is the fast that I have chosen?” says the Lord.
“Is it just a day for a man to afflict his soul,
To bow down his head like a reed,
And to lie in sackcloth and ashes?
Would you call this a fast,
An acceptable day to the Lord?”

(Isaiah 58:5)

The people were silent. Their lips were dry from fasting, but their hearts were still full of pride, anger, and injustice. They prayed loudly but oppressed the poor. They humbled their bodies but refused to humble their hearts.
Then God revealed what true fasting really means:
“Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To loose the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the heavy burdens,
To let the oppressed go free,
And that you break every yoke?”
(Isaiah 58:6)

God was showing that fasting, weeping, and mourning have meaning only when they come from a heart that turns back to Him — a heart that shows mercy and seeks justice.
And through the prophet Joel, the same message echoed again:

“Turn to Me with all your heart,
With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.
So rend your heart, and not your garments.”

(Joel 2:12–13)

💧 Now, what modern research has found:
Prayer that comes from deep repentance can bring emotional tears. And those tears aren’t just spiritual — they are healing.
When we cry, the body actually reduces stress hormones that build up during times of tension and anxiety. Tears also release endorphins — natural chemicals that ease pain and bring peace to the mind.
This combination lowers stress and lifts the spirit. It shows that even through science, we can see God’s design — how the body, mind, and spirit work together to heal.
So when tears fall in prayer, don’t hold them back.
They are not weakness — they are worship.
They are the heart’s way of returning to God. 💧🙏
