Pastor Francisco Barajah died of fasting.

Question: What can we learn from this great loss of a man?

A 39-year-old pastor Francisco Barajah from Mozambique died on 15th Wednesday February 2023  after attempting to mimic (not Jesus fast) Jesus Christ’s biblical feat of fasting for 40 days straight without food and water. Reported by the BBC

Francisco Barajah, the founder of the Santa Trindade Evangelical Church and a French teacher in the town of Messica Santa Trindade Evangelical Church, had fasted for 25 days before he was rushed to hospital by his relatives and followers owing to his deteriorating health.

When he arrived at the health facility, Barajah was diagnosed with acute anaemia and organ failure. He is reported to have lost so much weight that he could not even stand up.

Efforts to rehydrate the pastor with serums and liquid foods proved futile as he passed away a few hours after being admitted to the health facility.

The late pastor’s religious flock said that it was common for him to fast but not for such long periods of time.

Marques Manuel Barajah, the brother to the deceased, however, maintained that his brother passed away owing to low blood pressure.

Remark: First of all Pastor Francisco Barajah must have known about Jesus’ Biblical fast as a pastor!

  • Jesus did not FAST from WATER only from FOOD.

What does the bible say about Jesus Fast: And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”  Matthew 4:3

Meaning he had water but needed food. That was the temptation! The Gospels never mention a specific place, but local tradition claims Jesus spent his days on a mountain near the Jordan River. Only 2 people have gone without water and food in the desert! They both lived well over the average person and in good health. These people were not normal!

In today’s day and age some people have done what is called ‘Dry Fast’ with no water or food but for a short period of time, normally 3 days.

What we learn is not to attempt to do without understanding or practice.

I am Noel Christopher, 64 years old in 2023 and have done 40 days and 40 nights Jesus fast  ( also called water fast). I have known a few people personally, who have completed Jesus FAST.  We all must do it for a Spiritual growth seeking God’s face. God’s approved fast not for man’s approval.
