Learn From an Ant

Based on the Wisdom of King Solomon — Proverbs 6:6–8 (KJV)

“Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.”

Let me speak to you as a Christian brother in Jesus Christ. Solomon takes one of the smallest creatures in creation and sets it before us as a living illustration. The ant becomes a parable—a silent preacher teaching diligence, foresight, and inner discipline.

1. Her Diligence

The ant works with purpose. She does not wait to be pushed or reminded. She gathers while the season is favourable. God invites us to learn from her steady example and reflect on His Word, remembering that we live not by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

2. Her Discipline Without Supervision

“Having no guide, overseer, or ruler”—yet she remains faithful. Even a tiny creature displays a level of responsibility. Early Christian writers saw this as a warning against spiritual laziness. If an ant acts with discipline, how much more should we, who have the Holy Spirit, walk faithfully in obedience?

3. Her Preparation

The ant gathers in summer because she knows winter will come. She takes action before the crisis. Believers are called to store God’s Word, strengthen their faith—for faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God—pray without ceasing, and grow in obedience before storms arrive. Preparation marks true wisdom.

“Whoever hears these sayings of Mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.” — Jesus (Matthew 7:24)

Just as the ant prepares in the proper season, the wise builder lays his foundation before the rain falls. Jesus calls us to active, not delayed, obedience.

Golden Nugget (Take-Home Insight)

The ant teaches us that wisdom acts early. True disciples prepare in moments of strength—filling the heart with Scripture, prayer, obedience, and faith—so that when life’s winter arrives, they remain firm, steady, and fully supplied by God.
